MRI Suite
Project No.: 05014.a
Location: Buffalo, New York
Client: Kaleida Health
Area: 5,700 SF
Construction Complete: August 2006

The new 5,700 sq. ft. MRI Suite is the culmination of a master-plan and feasibility study which included an analysis of patient circulation patterns throughout the hospital. Acoustics was a key concern within the suite, because machine noise could create stress for nervous patients. To reduce this, our floor plan segregated inpatient and outpatient areas, creating a hallway that acted as an acoustical buffer. Lighting was also a careful consideration; in one instance, natural light from an abandoned garden area was recaptured to illuminate a waiting area. Indirect lighting coves disguise the existing mechanical infrastructure, allowing for higher ceilings and creating a more spacious appearance.
